Introduction
The Linkbox+ Geo is an integral component of Fell Marine’s ecosystem, designed to enhance connectivity and safety in boating and marine applications. With a rugged construction, the hub is built to withstand the elements, featuring high-impact resistance and an IP67 rating for water and dust ingress protection.
Equipped with GPS and 4G, the Linkbox+ Geo is engineered to provide the position of the boat, as well as stop engines and send automatic distress messages in the case of a Man Over Board (MOB) event. The hub supports a variety of communication protocols including Zigbee, Bluetooth, and WiMEA, a proprietary protocol for encrypted and secure wireless communication in safety-critical applications.
The Linkbox+ Geo is designed to connect to various sensors and smart devices, enabling a unified and efficient management system for boating safety and smart device control. Among others, Linkbox+ Geo can connect wirelessly to the sensor WaterSensor+. This sensor is designed to detect water, as well as monitor temperature and humidity levels. In the event of detecting water ingress or if the onboard temperature and humidity shift outside of preset boundaries, the WaterSensor+ communicates with the Linkbox+ Geo to alert users.
The Fell Marine ecosystem for boating applications can be controlled remotely using compatible mobile applications, available for download to Android and iOS. The mobile application provides the ability to monitor the leak status, temperature and humidity, set a digital geofence for theft detection, as well as enable or disable Man Over Board (MOB) distress message distribution.
Equipped with 4G connectivity, the Linkbox+ Geo is designed to automatically send distress messages directly to emergency services during a Man Over Board (MOB) event. This feature ensures immediate response, as it allows the hub to communicate the boats position and emergency status to search and rescue services. When activated, the automated distress message enhances safety by ensuring that the necessary assistance is dispatched when operating within the limits of the mobile phone network.
The Linkbox+ Geo wire harness* for boat applications is designed with an integrated eStop feature that enhances safety by interfacing a boat's existing kill switch system. In the event of a driver going overboard (MOB), the eStop function is activated, triggering an immediate engine shutdown. This critical safety measure ensures that the boat ceases operation to prevent injury and allow for a safe and quick recovery of the person overboard.

Linkbox+ Geo Kit - Hub and accessory kit for boats
The Linkbox+ Geo Kit contains required products for intallation in boats. The kit contains the following products:

Abra Life Fob
To enable automatic Man Over Board (MOB) detection, the Linkbox+ Geo must be paired with the wearable Abra Life Fob, a small wireless device used by the driver of the boat and any passengers that you wish to monitor. See Abra Life Fob user manual for details on how to setup and pair the Fob to the Linkbox+.
WaterSensor+
The WaterSensor+ is a wireless sensor that detects water, as well as measure temperature and humidity. See user manual for WaterSensor+ for details on how to setup and pair the WaterSensor+ to the Linkbox+.
WaterSensor+ Cover
The WaterSensor+ Cover is used to fix the WaterSensor+ inside the boat. The cover ensures the WaterSensor+ stays in place, while also protecting the sensor from accidental impacts. The cover includes double-sided tape for mounting on surfaces where drilling is not desirable, such as the boat hull.
External GPS (GNSS) Antenna
If the Linkbox+ is installed in a location that prohibits the reception of GPS signals, or results in the hub using a long time to receive a signal and lock the position (pending the type and materials in the boat), it is recomended to purchase the external GPS antenna. See GPS antenna user manual for details about the antenna.
Installing the external antenna will improve GPS reception when required by the installation position in the vessel (see details below).
Functionality
Man Over Board (MOB) Alarm
If a driver or passenger wearing the a connected Life Fob falls overboard, the Linkbox+ Geo triggers a loud audible alarm and visual signal to alert everyone onboard the boat. This immediate notification is essential for prompt action to stop the boat and potentially saving lives by speeding up rescue efforts.
Automatic eStop
The automatic eStop is a safety critical feature. In the event of a Man Over Board situation, the Linkbox+ Geo, if connected to the boat’s kill switch circuit, automatically deactivates the boat’s engine. This function prevents further accidents or injuries, ensuring that the boat ceases movement quickly to allow for a safer and more efficient rescue operation.
Connectivity and App Control
Through advanced connectivity options, including Bluetooth, WiFi, and 4G, the Linkbox+ Geo offers extensive control and monitoring capabilities via compatible mobile applications. This allows boat owners and operators to remotely manage the system, receive alerts, and monitor the boat's status.
MOB Distress Message to Rescue Services
In an MOB incident, the Linkbox+ Geo can send an automated distress message to emergency rescue services*. This feature is crucial for ensuring that professional help is notified promptly in emergencies.

GPS Positioning for Geofence and Theft Detection
GPS position tracking enables in-app setup of a digital geofence. If the boat moves outside a preset perimeter, an emergency notification is issued to the owner of the boat through the mobile application, warning about potential theft, unauthorized use or that the mooring has been broken.

Sensor Integration for Environmental Monitoring
The Linkbox+ Geo can connect to WaterSensor+, to monitor environmental conditions such as water presence, temperature, and humidity. This allows for early detection of potential issues like water ingress, continously high moisture or detecting freeze temperatures, ensuring that timely alerts and actions can be taken to prevent damage or address changing environmental conditions inside the boat.
Backup Battery
A built-in battery in the Linkbox+ Geo ensures its operation for several hours during a power failure. This backup is particularly important for maintaining critical functions like sending MOB distress messages to emergency services even if the main power source is temporarily compromised.
Operating system
The Linkbox+ Geo is powered by AbraOS, a proprietary Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) engineered for instantaneous operation. AbraOS is designed for security-critical applications, with an architecture that is resistant to viruses and cyberattacks, ensuring high system integrity and safe operation.
AbraOS features an automatic over-the-air (OTA) update mechanism, which activates whenever your Linkbox+ Geo connects to the internet. This functionality guarantees that your device is always running the most current version of the operating system, equipped with the latest features and security updates. Bluetooth
The Linkbox+ Geo features Bluetooth connectivity, which can be used for initial system setup and as a backup communication method through connected mobile phones. This is particularly useful if the primary 4G/LTE-M communication channel experiences disruption.
WiMEA
WiMEA, a proprietary wireless protocol developed by Fell Technology, is tailored for safety-critical communications. It securely connects with devices such as the WaterSensor+ and the Life Fob, ensuring reliable data transfer for crucial safety applications.
4G / LTE-M
The Linkbox+ Geo is equipped with a 4G modem that dynamically selects the best communication provider based on local coverage. Coverage may vary due to location, weather conditions, and the installation specifics in the boat or recreational vehicle. As such, periods of 4G connection outage are possible.
Zigbee 3.0
Zigbee 3.0, known for its low-energy wireless networking capabilities, is used in various smart home and industrial control systems. Its integration into the Linkbox+ Geo allows for compatibility with multiple smart home devices, subject to support in the accompanying mobile application.
WiFi 2.4 GHz
While WiFi 2.4 GHz is not commonly utilized in marine or recreational vehicles, it provides an important communication option for the Linkbox+ Geo, especially for docked boats or those in storage. It caters to specialized applications where standard marine communication methods are less viable.
GNSS
The Linkbox+ Geo utilizes Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for precise location tracking. This includes support for systems like GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia) and Galileo (EU), offering comprehensive global coverage.

Limitation of Liability for Man Overboard (MOB) System
Please be aware that Fell Marine explicitly disclaims any liability for malfunctions of the MOB system, including but not limited to failures in detecting a man overboard event or transmitting distress messages. Such malfunctions may arise due to unforeseen circumstances, technical issues, or environmental factors beyond our control.
Additionally, Fell Marine holds no responsibility for any costs, damages, or liabilities incurred as a result of false alarms or erroneous transmissions generated by the system. This includes, but is not limited to, expenses or consequences stemming from the activation of rescue operations based on such alerts.
It is crucial for users to understand these limitations and to take appropriate precautions, including regular system testing and maintenance, to ensure optimal functionality of the MOB system. Users are also advised to have alternative safety measures and emergency response plans in place.
4G Connectivity
The 4G (LTE) connection utilized by the Linkbox+ Geo may experience occasional disconnections, potentially lasting up to 3 minutes. During such disconnections, critical messages, including those related to Man Overboard (MOB) events or other status updates, will not be transmitted until the reconnection of 4G. This delay could increase the response time from the moment of the MOB event to the dispatch of distress messages. However, any ongoing MOB alarms will be transmitted immediately upon the reconnection of the 4G network.
Wireless Range and System Operation
Be advised that when a Life Fob is within the wireless range of the Linkbox+ Geo, the system will not automatically shut down the boat's engine in the event of a Man Overboard (MOB). In such scenarios, the engine can be manually shut down by pressing the button on the Life Fob or the Linkbox+ Geo. It is important to verify the wireless range of your system before use to understand its limitations for safe operation.
Wireless Range Responsibility
Users are responsible for checking that the wireless range from the Linkbox+ Geo to any connected Life Fobs is sufficient for their specific needs. If you find the wireless range inadequate, consider installing an external WiMEA Antenna in an upright position, away from factors that could reduce the range, such as metal enclosures or walls.
Engine Emergency Stop Integration
The Linkbox+ Geo can be integrated into the emergency stop circuit of your boat’s engine, allowing for engine shutdown in emergencies via the Life Fob or the Hub button, or automatically during a MOB event. To enable this feature, the eStop output wire from a compatible Linkbox+ Geo wire harness designed for boating must be correctly connected to the boat's kill switch circuit. This integration is essential for enhancing safety measures during critical situations.
Installation Compliance Disclaimer
The Linkbox+ Geo must be installed following local regulations pertaining to low-voltage electrical installations. Before commencing installation, thoroughly read and understand the instructions provided in this manual. Keep this manual readily available for future reference. Adherence to these guidelines ensures that the product is installed safely and correctly.
EMC
Disconnect battery cables before installation. Carefully read all instructions to ensure correct use of the Linkbox+ Geo. The product and its accessories are designed for the recreational marine environment and must be installed properly to comply with EMC regulations.
Installation
Selecting installation location
Central Location
Install the Linkbox+ Geo as centrally as possible within the boat to maximize the reach of the WiMEA signals. Insufficient WiMEA wireless range may lead to loss of connection to WaterSensor+ or Life Fob, causing loss of sensor measurements or unintended Man Over Board alarms.
Avoid Obstacles
Installation near or within thick walls and in particular metal structures should be avoided as these materials can significantly weaken or block wireless signals. This is crucial for maintaining the connection to and ensure accurate GPS positioning, as obstructions may prevent satellite signals from reaching the device.
Minimize Signal Disruption
To reduce potential signal interference, position the Linkbox+ Geo at least 1 meter away from high-frequency electronic devices, especially other communication equipment (e.g. VHF or radards). Communication equipment may disrupt the wireless capabilities of the Linkbox+ Geo.
If the boat helm is made out of conducting materials, the wireless signals from the Linkbox+ Geo may be degraded. The amount of signal degradation experienced may vary across boats and must be tested for each installation. If the signal range is insufficient for the WiMEA connection to Life Fob or WaterSensor+, install install the external WiMEA Antenna* outside of your helm to increase the signal strength.
*The WiMEA Antenna is included with the Linkbox+ Geo Kit.
Installing the product
- Mark the location of the screws using the Linkbox+ Geo as a template. Confirm hole pattern dimension are matching the dimensions shown in the image below.
- For mounting onto glass fiber or plastic helms, it is recommend to pre-drill Ø3 mm holes to avoid cracking the base material. Be cautious of cables or equipment behind the installation area.
- Install the Linkbox+ Geo using the screws included with the Linkbox+ Geo packaging. Secure the device with the included screws, avoiding overtightening.
NOTE: Use of dual-sided tape is not recommended, as it may not withstand the high impact forces encountered in boating.
Installation of wire harness and external WiMEA antenna (accessories): -
Connect the yellow (or yellow/black) eStop wire from the boat's wiring harness to the appropriate kill switch wire, and connect the black wire to ground (GND) wire. Refer to the provided illustration for correct wiring.
The eStop wire is designed for Close to Stop (CS) systems, where the manual kill switch engages by grounding the kill switch. Verify that your engine uses a Close to Stop kill switch system before proceeding with the connection. For inboard engine boats, consult with a dealer or qualified technician for proper installation.
Note
Installation of the eStop function is recommended to be carried out by professionals familiar with electrical wiring in boats.
If retaining a mechanical kill switch, connect the Linkbox+ eStop in parallel to it.
Use marine-grade butt splices or similar connectors to ensure all wire connections are waterproof.
Avoid modifying the original wiring of the kill switch. - Connect the power (PWR) cable and GND cable to the boat 12V system.
- Connect external antennas (if required by your installation); GPS antenna to the right and the WiMEA antenna to the left when viewing the hub from the front. Tighten the connectors, avoid using excessive force.
The connectors for the GPS antenna and WiMEA antenna are not interchangeable.
- Connect the wire harness (center) to the Linkbox+ by inserting the connector and engaging nut. Hand tighten to ensure the connector is fixed.
Use of the product
Configuring the product
The configuration of the Linkbox+ is conducted through compatible mobile applications. Typical settings that can be modified include:
- Managing connected devices
- Activating or deactivating the geofence feature for theft detection and adjusting the radius of the circular geofence (minimum radius setting: 100 meters).
- Configuring the distribution of distress messages and setting emergency contacts.
Pairing Life Fob with Linkbox+ Geo

Activate Life Fob paring mode on Linkbox+ Geo
Press and hold the center button on the Linkbox+ Geo for more than 3 seconds until an audible beep is heard and the Power indicator is fading blue in and out.

Initiate paring mode on Life Fob
On the Life Fob, press and hold the button for more than 3 seconds. This will start the automatic connection process. The LED on the Fob will blink green every 1 second, indicating that it is attempting to pair with the Hub.

Confirm successful pairing
Life Fob LED blinking green rapidly 5 times indicates successful pairing.

Repeat for additional devices
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for all new Fobs that shall be connected to the Linkbox+ Geo.
Pairing WaterSensor+ with Linkbox+ Geo

Activate WaterSensor+ paring mode on Linkbox+ Geo
Press the center button on the Linkbox+ Geo 1x and the Power indicator is fading green in and out.

Repeat steps 1 to 3 for all new water sensors that shall be connected to the Linkbox+ Geo.
Function testing
Function testing is crucial for verifying the reliability and safety of systems like the Life Fob and Linkbox+ Geo. It ensures that all components perform correctly, maintaining operational integrity and safety in both regular and emergency situations.
Connecting and disconnecting Fobs from Linkbox+ Geo
To connect the driver Fob to the Linkbox+ Geo, press the button on the Fob once (1x). The ALARM light on the hub will shift from green to blue, signaling that the hub has entered the correct wireless mode. A single beep from the hub confirms a successful connection.
To connect additional passenger Fobs, press the button on each Fob. The Linkbox+ Geo supports up to eight Fobs simultaneously connected: one driver (1) and up to seven (7) passengers.
To disconnect all Fobs, press the driver Fob once; this action will disconnect all linked Fobs.
The connection status of each Fob is visible on the device: the driver Fob's LED indicator blinks blue every 2.5 seconds, while connected passenger Fobs blink green at the same interval.
Note:
- The first Fob to connect to the Linkbox+ for each session will become the driver Fob.
- Passenger Fobs cannot be disconnected to avoid unintentional disconnections, such as those that might be inadvertently performed by children, which could compromise safety. Disconnecting the driver Fob will disconnect all passenger Fobs.

Connected Fobs automatically disconnect after 24 hours to prevent battery drainage if left in a connected state. Ten minutes before disconnection, the hub emits an audible warning to alert the driver of the impending automatic disconnection. To reset the timer; disconnect and reconnect the Fobs.
Testing GPS positioning*
Power up the hub and allow the system to obtain a position fix. This process may take up to 10 minutes, depending on signal strength at the installation location in the boat. Factors such as metal objects in close proximity, other electronic equipment, adverse weather conditions (e.g., heavy cloud coverage) or obstructed views of the horizon will affect signal reception.
Launch the compatible mobile application to confirm that the boat’s location is accurately displayed. Ensure that your device’s location services are enabled to facilitate this verification.
If the application does not display the position, the Linkbox+ Geo may have failed to secure a fix. Consider relocating the hub to a part of the boat where signal strength is enhanced. Ensure there are no physical obstructions that could impede satellite connectivity.
*Testing of GPS functionality can is only possible using a compatible mobile applications.
Testing Man Overboard (MOB) alarm, eStop and distress messaging
To verify the functionality of the MOB alarm and distress messaging, follow these steps:
- Connect a Fob to the Linkbox+ Geo.
- Start the engines.
- Move the Fob away from the Linkbox+ Geo or shield the Fob using a metal object (or combination thereof) until the Fob loses its wireless connection to the hub.
Observe the following:
- The audible and visual alarm activation from the Linkbox+ and buzzers.
- Check if the eStop is asserted and all engines are stopped.
- If using a compatible mobile application with distress messaging activated, ensure that a push notification appears in the app and that a distress message is sent to emergency services (after any possible countdown).*
*Activation and deactivation of distress messages sent to emergency services and emergency contacts are managed through compatible mobile applications.
Testing engine emergency immobilization
With the eStop feature configured, the driver can immobilize the engine during an emergency by pressing the driver Fob button to disconnect. Upon disconnection from the Linkbox+, the eStop signal is activated for 6 seconds to halt the engine. The engine can be restarted once the eStop signal is deactivated.
Note: Do not test the emergency immobilization at speed. Keep the boat stationary and engine running, then connect and disconnect driver Fob to verify functionality.
Water detection
Use a wet cloth to apply water to the sensor points on the wireless sensor.
Ensure that:
- The Linkbox+ emits an audible alarm signal and that the ALARM light is blinking red.
- The wireless sensor emits a low, audible signal and is blinking red.
To stop the water alarm, wipe the sensor point dry and press the Linkbox+ button.
Repeat the test for each installed wireless sensor.
Geofence alarm
Configure and activate the geofence using a compatible mobile application.
Move the boat outside the set perimeter of the geofence. Confirm that a geofence alarm is triggered after a maximum of 5 minutes, which will be notified via your mobile phone and/or SMS.
Note: The geofence functionality is only available through compatible mobile applications and is not supported when using only the system kit.

The Linkbox+ Geo is designed with safety in mind and uses 9-16V DC power supply. Despite the low voltage, we ask that you pay attention to the dangers of electrical products and follow the instructions below.
- The system must only be used in good condition and in accordance with. Installation and use instructions in this manual.
- Fell Marine accepts no liability for damage caused by non-compliance with the instructions.
- Genuine components, accessories and spare parts must be used for proper and safe operation of the system. Improper use or non-genuine components may result in reduction or termination of the product's warranty provisions.
- The system must only be installed in a dry and frost-free environment.
- Avoid hazards or reduced functionality by checking cables for damage. Visible damaged cables must be replaced.

To clean your Linkbox+ Geo, wipe it with a soft cloth moistened with mild detergent. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or chemical solvents that contain oil or alcohol, as this can discolor the plastic. Use another soft, dry cloth to wipe it dry.
Transport
The Linkbox+ Geo should always be transported in its original packaging. If the packaging should fall or be affected in any other way, a visual inspection should be performed to confirm possible damage to the product.
Storage
To preserve the packaging and its contents, we recommend storage in a tempered, dry and well-ventilated area. Relative humidity should not exceed 80% and no corrosive gas should be present. Storage or transportation environment must never exceed the limits provided in the technical specifications of the Linkbox+ Geo.
Disposal
This electronic equipment must not be disposed of in household waste. For the return of old devices, free collection and acceptance points may be available in your vicinity. Observe local regulations for correct and environmentally friendly disposal. If the old electronic equipment contains personal data, you are responsible for deleting it yourself before returning it.

Troubleshooting
My Linkbox+ does not start when connecting to power or re-starts when cranking the engine(s)
Ensure that the input voltage is minimum 9 V. Lower voltage may cause the device to re-boot caused by temporary drop in voltage caused by high current draw from the engine start motor.
